Martin Reeves, Chief Executive, Coventry City Council said:
“I’m delighted to be taking part in this annual city event which not only encourages people to take part in physical activity and get active, but also raises lots of money for a number of charities.
This year’s event also sees Mercia FM getting on board as title sponsors, hence the new Mercia Mile title for the fun run. I’ve started my training for the day and will be looking to ex-Olympic athlete and Coventry Ambassador, Dave Moorcroft for advice and encouragement on my training programme. Trust me when I say that I need all the help I can get!
This will be my first Coventry Half Marathon so I’m already looking forward to October 25 and seeing many other people joining me running the streets of Coventry on the day.”

Sandy Clisham, owner of Coventry Runner, a specialist running shop based in Radford, Coventry and one of the local companies sponsoring the event, will be taking part on the day. Sandy said:
” We are delighted to be involved in this event as it combines two of our passions in life – running and supporting active lifestyles in our home city. We have a number of regular customers who call in to see us and seek advice to help them achieve their best on the day. I would encourage the local community to come out and support the event, it really makes a difference to the city’s profile and helps bring people together in a live event.”

Dave Moorcroft, Former Olympic athlete and 5,000m world record holder is also behind the event:
“It’s great that once again the event returns to the city and we are hoping more and more people take the opportunity to be involved, get active and also help raise money for charity. Taking part in events like this is great for bringing people together, whatever their ability level and reason for entering. This year, I’ll be supporting Martin in achieving his own personal goal, by assisting in his training schedule and offering encouragement as the build up grows and the event nears. Coventry’s got a great reputation for sport and this event provides another example of why that’s the case.”
